Economy
The employment base of the town is made up of both those who live in the town as well as a large number of commuters. Approximately 1/3 of the workers are employed in some form of government service. There is a strong base of revenue within the town due to its high population and its strong economic strength.

Government
The Town of Colonie uses a Town Supervisor government. The Town of Colonie is probably one of the most established governmental bodies and offers one of the most complete range of services to the town's resident. The number for Town Hall is 518-783-2700.
Medical
Because of its easy access to the City of Albany, Colonie is just minutes from some of the finest medical facilities in the area. Albany Medical Center, located in the heart of Albany, is famous for it's pioneering work in the treatment of trauma cases. Four other fine hospitals serve the area: Albany Memorial Hospital, St. Peter's Hospital, the Veterans Administration Hospital, and Child's Hospital.
Housing
Colonie offers a wide range of housing opportunity. Included are everything from popular priced homes built in the post World War II expansion years to some of the area's most desirable homes located in Loudonville, having values of over $500,000. This area offers some of the finest homes in the Capital District.
The Hearst Group publishes the morning Times Union in it's facility located near the Albany Airport. The Daily Gazette and The Record are also widely read within the Town of Colonie.
Transportation
Commuter: This area's well developed interstate system makes most of the Capital District only minutes away.

The Town of Colonie hosts many weekly and monthly meetings to a large variety of organizations. Due to the large number of people who work in the Town of Colonie this makes it a natural meeting place for many organizations. The town boasts of recreational activities and sports. There is a 150 acre town park with an olympic size pool, boating facilities and cross-country ski trails. There is a public twenty-seven hole, town-owned golf course with clubhouse and tennis courts.Mini-parks are scattered throughout the town. At Heritage Park you can enjoy professional baseball.
