The Town of Colonie is the "hub" of the Capital District. It consists of two villages and several hamlets. Colonie contains the highest concentration of shopping. The Albany International Airport is also located in Colonie.

Albany Medical Center, located in the heart of Albany, is famous for it's pioneering work in the treatment of trauma cases. Four other fine hospitals serve the area: Albany Memorial Hospital, St. Peter's Hospital, the Veterans Administration Hospital, and Child's Hospital.

The town boasts of recreational activities and sports. There is a 150 acre town park with an olympic size pool, boating facilities and cross-country ski trails. There is a public twenty-seven hole, town-owned golf course with clubhouse and tennis courts.
