| The Town of New Scotland is located approximately 10 miles
southwest of Albany in the foothills of the Helderberg Mountains. The villages
and hamlets of the Town include: Clarksville, Feura Bush, New Salem, Onesquethaw
(Tarrytown), Unionville, Voorheesville, and the Town of New Scotland itself.
This generally rural area offers homes with a variety of architectural styles
on large lots. Everything from a vintage Victorian or large farm, to a
contemporary home can be found in New Scotland. Residential areas in the
Town include the villages of Voorheesville, New Salem, Clarksville, and Feura
Bush. People are drawn to the Town of New Scotland by its pleasant small-town

Because of its easy access to the City of Albany, New Scotland is just 20 minutes from some of the finest medical facilities in the area. Albany Medical Center, located in the heart of Albany, is famous for it's pioneering work in the treatment of trauma cases. Four other fine hospitals serve the area: Albany Memorial Hospital, St. Peter's Hospital, the Veterans Administration Hospital, and Child's Hospital.
Commuter: Approximately a 20 minute drive to downtown Albany via the Slingerlands Bypass (Route 85), State Farm Road (Route 155), Feura Bush Road (Route 32), and Delaware Avenue (Route 43), all of which are well maintained year-round.
Over 18,000 senior citizens in Albany County take advantage of support services, educational activities, discounts, recreation, counseling, meal and transportation services sponsored by senior citizens centers, clubs and organizations. For information call the Albany County Department for Aging at 518-447-7177. Since New Scotland is a fairly rural area, there are no malls, but there are quite a few local shops and supermarkets. Albany is close-by though, and it has a number of malls including: Crossgates Mall, Colonie Center, and Latham Circle.

Recreational facilities are available at the Town Park on Swift Road. Here residents may play tennis, basketball, swim, or picnic. The Town of New Scotland also offers three country clubs with excellent facilities. The beauty of this area can be appreciated by a visit to Thatcher Park, at the peak of the Helderberg Mountains which overlook the Town. From here, Albany, Schenectady and much of the Capital District can be seen. An Olympic-size pool, public picnic areas and a nature walk on the historic Indian Ladder Trail are great fun during the summer, and in the winter cross-country ski trails criss-cross the wilderness. The Five Rivers Environmental Center also provides an enjoyable experience for those who like to be close to nature. |
