Economy
Saratoga's economy is probably the most diverse in the Capital District. The economy relies on a blend of revenue from both industry and recreational-oriented industry. The month of August, mainly stimulated by the Saratoga Horse Racing Track, is dominated with tourist activity. The tourist activity circles around Saratoga Performing Arts Center, which is the summer home of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York City Ballet. It is also host to a large number of special concert events. Large manufacturers with facilities in Saratoga include General Foods, Ball Metal Containers, QuadGraphics, American Tissue and Espey Manufacturing.

Government
A Mayor and City Council govern Saratoga Springs. A full-time police department is employed.
The locally published The Saratogian is the premier publication of Saratoga. This publication is enjoyed by the community seven days each week. The Albany Times Union and the Schenectady published Daily Gazette also are a source of information to readers.
Transportation
Commuter: This area's well developed interstate system makes most of the Capital District only minutes away.

Rail: Located in Saratoga Springs, AMTRAK provides rail service to destinations nationwide and in Canada. Call 518-587-8354 for information.
Air: Albany International Airport, located in Colonie (20-25) minutes from Saratoga), is served by many major and commuter airlines. The Saratoga County Airport accommodates private planes and jets.

& Organizations

Downtown Saratoga is the focus of shopping in the area. The well done shops on Broadway offer shoppers a fine selection of shopping opportunities. Wilton Mall is located in Saratoga Springs. Also, shoppers may conveniently travel south to Albany or north to Glens Falls to expand their shopping horizons.

Parks
& Recreation
As previously noted, the Saratoga Horse Racing Track provides a great source of excitement to the area. The historic Saratoga Battlefield, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the 2000 plus acres of Saratoga State Park, the Saratoga Harness Course and a variety of summer theaters provide superb recreational opportunities. Saratoga County is located approximately 30 minutes from beautiful Lake George, a true source for four seasons of beautiful recreational opportunities.
